Excellent quality sandstone & limestone wall tiles, of glass fiber reinforced concrete cast stone (GFRC / GRC), for external & internal stone veneer wall cladding, by Van de Lente Stone
Welcome to Van de Lente Stone, manufacturer of excellent quality Sandstone and Limestone wall tiles, in GFRC / GRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete) cast stone, for internal and external wall cladding. Van de Lente GFRC cast stone cultured wall tiles, are suitable both for exterior and interior wall cladding, and provide "old world" beauty & elegance, plus great tensile & compressive strength, durability, waterproofness, and economy. Manufactured by proprietary processes, under 600 Ton forming pressure, with the best time-tested materials and advanced chemical additives, Van de Lente Stone wall tiles have a life expectancy not unsimilar to Ancient Roman edifices built of this same material (minus the glass fiber reinforcement) over 2000 years ago, that are still standing! They are a technically superior & cost effective substitute for marble tiles, travertine tiles, limestone and sandstone tiles, being equally beautiful but also stronger and more durable. Small standard tile thickness, of 15 mm for internal cladding, and 25 mm for external ventilated rainscreen cladding, results in lighter weight and ease of installation, in comparison to natural cut stone tiles, weight being up to 25% lighter than marble of the same size. Tile thicknesses of up to 45mm may be provided by special order, if required, for exterior wall cladding applications. Much like natural cut stone, no two tiles are the same, their graining and colour are rendered by their body mass, and may be sanded, ground and polished, if required (normally not required), using the same equipment and techniques employed for marble, travertine, limestone, sandstone, granite and other natural cut stones. Van de Lente Stone GFRC / GRC wall tiles come in four standard colours that emulate Portland, Bath and Jerusalem natural cut stone (off white, beige, gold, buff), three standard sizes for universal (interior and exterior) applications, and six standard external wall cladding sizes, for ventilated rainscreen cladding. Please scroll down to the bottom of this page to view all available standard sizes. Custom sizes may be made available, upon request.

Benefits of using lightweight Van de Lente Stone tiles
While beauty, elegance and finish are the primary reasons for choosing Van de Lente Stone wall tiles, their technical superiority should not be overlooked. Lighter weight, in comparison to natural stone, is a major aspect for consideration. On average, Van de Lente tiles weigh 25% less than equivalent marble tiles. On multi-storey steel structures, great reductions in the amount of steel required in the building structure can be realized. For example, on a 10,000 square meter tower, GFRC tiles may reduce the building weight by more than 1,000 Tons, reducing the size, weight and cost of the building foundation, footings, beams and columns. Our GFRC tiles are also ideal for renovation or recladding of existing buildings because they add less superimposed load to the existing structure and foundations than natural stone tiles. In many cases, GFRC tiles can be installed directly over old cladding, with minimal impact to the building structure. Van de Lente GFRC tiles are widely used in seismic areas where the panel's lighter weight and flexible connections to the building enable the skin to move during seismic events rather than collapse and fail. Finally, Van de Lente tiles and panels can be installed using lighter, less expensive cranes, making installation cheaper and faster.
Why NOT use natural stone tiles for exterior wall cladding
Excepting the case of building marble mansions in the traditional manner, using heavy structural stone blocks 25" thick, the use of natural stone tiles for external cladding is a very risky endeavour, better to be bypassed. Because thin marble, limestone and sandstone cladding tiles, usually 1" to 1 1/2" thick, gradually deteriorate after installation and lose their initial properties and strength, because of multiple stress factors, such as thermal expansion and contraction, UV radiation, moisture migration and condensation, wet/dry cycles, freeze/thaw cycles, pressure from wind loading and structural movements. As a result, given time, natural stone tiles will corrode, chip, crack and even fall off. In time, they become a real safety hazard. Re-cladding an entire natural stone clad building, due to material deterioration or failure, at considerable cost, is not a rare occurrence.
In contrast to marble and other natural stone tiles, modern cladding materials, such as glass fiber reinforced concrete cast stone tiles (GFRC / GRC) exhibit superior properties and long term durability. They have been introduced to replace natural stone tiles, and eliminate the issues and risks associated with their use. Greatly improved flexural, tensile, and compressive specifications of GFRC tiles, as well as virtual waterproofness, have established these tiles as a premium cladding material of first choice. The ability of GFRC to faithfully reproduce the natural beauty of quarried stone while providing unsurpassed physical properties, has rapidly elevated this modern material to top choice of architects and builders.
